We didn’t write resolutions last year

We called them ins and outs. I think going into 2025, we’re going to call them something like intentions, or goals. Not hating on it, I actually think calling them something other than resolutions makes them more approachable.

Drinks and a catch up with my brothers prompted our reflection on what’s to come and what we’re hopeful for.

I think I’ve gotten better at navigating resolutions as I’ve gotten older; these feel like goals that I’m already working on and have the foresight to see the benefit pursuing.

I won’t list out my resolutions here (more for silly, superstitious reasons than for accountability), but they’re more leaning towards self care, developing better habits, looking inwards and nurturing my existing relationships, and working on asserting my own boundaries.

Juxtapose that to grandiose resolutions/delusions of my past/young adulthood where they would be catch-all things like “get dream job” or “fall in love” or “get abs” which I’m sure I could attain if I was aligned with those goals back then. I never knew the backwards planning that went into creating resolutions, but thought of them as something one boldly declares at the start of the new year. I realised that I’m not the kind of person who will charge after a bold declaration, though. My approach is more deliberate and methodical and reframing my resolutions as such have made them more achievable. For what it’s worth my abs are still pending, and I’m not mad at that to be honest.
